The XINYOU XY-1818 is a white biochemical filter pad (bio sponge / filter wool) for mechanical and biological filtration in aquariums and fish ponds. The soft fibre mat captures suspended dirt and debris while providing a large surface area for beneficial nitrifying bacteria. It is the white member of XINYOU’s colour-coded filter-pad series (white XY-1818, green XY-1819, blue XY-1820), each standard sheet measuring 90 × 30 × 2 cm and cut-to-size for any filter tray, sump, top filter or pond filter pool.

How It Works

As water passes through the fibre matrix, larger particles are trapped mechanically while the fibre surface hosts nitrifying bacteria that convert toxic ammonia and nitrite into safer nitrate. Rinse in old tank water when flow slows to keep the bacterial colony alive.

How to Use

Cut the pad to fit your filter tray, sump or pond pool and place it in the mechanical/biological stage so water flows through it. Rinse in tank-temperature (de-chlorinated) water when it clogs; replace once the fibre degrades.

Maintenance Notes

Rinse in old tank water — not chlorinated tap water — to protect the beneficial bacteria. If running several pads, stagger cleaning so the biological filter is never fully reset at once.
